Tips for a Good Night's Rest

The reality is the all of us have problem sleep from time to time. If that is you, then these tips should help you through it. If you are a hard-core insomniac these tips can help take the edge off as well.

"This too shall pass". This was something my father always used to say to me when I was younger. It generally aggravated me until I got a little older and saw the true wisdom in it. When it comes to problem sleep, the more you get anxious about it, the more "awake" your mind and body become and the less you will be able to sleep.

Don't turn to pills for help immediately. Most people will only suffer through the insomnia for 1 or 2 nights. It is natural and normal to have problem sleep from time to time. If you do not have sleep problems consistently then you are much better off using some of the tips here and struggle through.

Now, if you are a card carrying member of the insomnia club like I am, definitely try the Sleep Again.

Try a warm bath and dim those lights! It will relax your body and mind. Some soft music can often help here as well. Make sure you have everything done so that you can get right into bed after the bath.

Read before you go to bed. This will depend on the person. A book is probably not a great idea, especially if you are the "get lost in a book type". Light reading only, not work, and try to do it while in bed.

Sex. Between the physical exercise and the hormones flying around, sleep often comes very naturally after sex.

Eat if you are hungry. While it is not good for your waistline to eat right before bed it is also really hard to sleep when you are hungry. If you often find yourself hungry before bed then you should plan a snack an hour or so before bedtime to make sure the issue isn't there when it is time for sleep.

A glass of warm milk or wine. Sometimes one of these will relax your mind and get your body and mind ready to sleep. However, I do not recommend both. :)

Talk yourself down. You can also try talking yourself down. If your mind is racing, you are nervous or anxious, or just can't stop thinking about something in your life then try telling yourself to stop. Remind yourself that nothing is going to change overnight. I find it useful to pick a "happy thought" and turn that focus to it. With your mental energy turned to something happy, often sleep will come much easier.

Problem Sleep? Please read this post....

Sleep Again
Do you have problem sleep? Do you lie there and toss and turn or stare at the ceiling? Have you given up on bothering to go to bed and just hope to fall asleep on the couch or in the chair? Do you get anxious when it is time to go to bed? Do you daydream about getting a good night sleep?

I know how you feel. Insomnia is a big part of my life. It has been with me since my early 20’s. I try every sleep pill and technique I can find.
  • Fall asleep to the sound of the waves, the jungle, the rain, etc.
  • Prescription pills and non-prescription pills
  • Relax to fall asleep
  • Meditation
  • Don’t eat after 7 pm
  • Exercise
  • Don’t exercise
  • The list goes on....
You name it and I tried it. Melatonin helped some - at first. The nighttime Tylenol would get me a couple of hours of sleep. Sometimes. Nothing seemed to work regularly or could get me through the night where I felt rested. I would use the prescription products when I was really desperate but then I felt lousy the next day.

Personally, the fog in my head from being tired is better than the fuzzy brain from the prescription sleep aids.

Yes, what is the point here, besides whining a bit, if I didn't have something good to say. Not too long ago I tried Sleep Again. Yes, I keep looking for something. Did it work? Yes and no. It’s not perfect but it does work. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that I take this and I fall asleep like a baby, sleep all night, and it works every night. I wish I was saying that....

What I am saying is that I fall asleep and usually make it through the night. Sometimes I wake up early but it is much better than not falling asleep until 4:30…

The best part is that I don’t feel like a have a big hangover when I wake up and I feel much more rested. If you have insomnia you know what I mean. Going to bed thinking that there is a good chance you will fall asleep and not feel dead in the morning is a great feeling!!

If you have this problem like I do, please check this out. I really like the company as well. They don't do some auto-ship scam where you think you are getting a trial and it takes you three months to realize you are getting charged over and over again.

They play it straight. The deal is you buy 2 bottles of Sleep Again and get 1 free. It is a great deal and there are no games. Nothing else will be charged to your card in the future. If you want more of the product, come back and buy more. That's it.

I know that some people prefer a free-trial of a product before buying. The company also offers a free-trial if you would feel more comfortable going that route. Here is a link for the free-trial of Sleep Again.

Please let me know if you are as happy as I am with this product.

Exercise and Sleep

-

Problem Sleep
I used to hear this a lot, if you exercise hard you will get a good night rest. Ya, right. Clearly spoken by someone who has never had problem sleep. I used to exercise pretty regularly and I even got myself in pretty good shape. Unfortunately I still wasn't sleeping with any regularity.

Don't get me wrong, I might sleep fine for a week or maybe 2. Then, bam. I was back to staring at the ceiling. Why does this happen. I couldn't seem to think of anything that happened each time I would start another round of insomnia.

I tried exercising in the morning, lunchtime, late afternoon and evening - staying away from anything close to bedtime, of course. I tried weight training, bike riding, and the old faithful, push-ups and sit-ups. The results were the same - very little sleep until my body was just so tired it had no choice.

I have tried to explain to people what problem sleep is like. How long the night's are. How frustrating it is to be exhausted and unable to sleep. How desperate you get for a good night sleep. People will sympathize with you but you can tell they don't get it.

Did you have any luck with exercise?
